Launch of the Opera Australia NSW Primary Schools Tour
I was proud to support the superb work of Opera Australia at the launch of their NSW Primary Schools Tour, at Marrickville West Primary School in February.
In many ways, Opera Australia defines Australia’s arts scene. It is modern and innovative – never afraid of the latest spectacular ways to engage new audiences; but it has also never lost sight of its traditional values – the excellent musicianship and the artistic integrity that have defined its successes for decades.
The NSW Primary Schools Tour programme is a powerful way to expose primary school children to the joy of opera, taking a dynamic performance of Humperdinck’s Hansel and Gretel to over 45,000 students across the state. Being made aware that opera is so versatile, alive and engaging is integral to young Australians developing a passion for fine music – a gift that will last a lifetime.
I applaud Opera Australia’s Artistic Director Lyndon Terracini and CEO Craig Hassall for their continuing success and creative acumen. It was great to meet them, along with the kids at Marrickville West – who all clearly had a great time!
