Greeting the Dutch Royals, HM King Willem-Alexander and HM Queen Máxima
On Tuesday the 1st November I had the honour of officially welcoming to Canberra the Dutch Royals, His Majesty King Willem-Alexander and Her Majesty Queen Máxima, on behalf of the Prime Minister, the Hon Malcolm Turnbull MP. Their Majesties arrived from Perth, where they marked the 400th anniversary of the landing of Dirk Hartog in Western Australia.
While Their Majesties have been to Australia several times, this is the first official Dutch state visit to Australia in 28 years and is an invaluable opportunity to strengthen the bond between our two nations.
Australia and the Netherlands have a lot in common. We share fundamental values of democracy, and freedom of speech, and we both nurture strong economies.
I wish them all the best for the remainder of their visit and look forward to working together into the future to continue to build on and develop our relationship.
