University of New South Wales and Neuroscience Research Australia receive funds to go global

 

The University of New South Wales and Neuroscience Research Australia will both receive funding to meet and collaborate with global partners to progress their ground-breaking projects, under grants announced last week by the Australian Government. 

 

Under the Global Connections Fund we are providing three separate grants for UNSW, worth a total $145,431, that will help researchers’ projects to grow in scope and scale, and to test commercialisation and proof-of-concept activities.

 

The three UNSW projects include:

  • $50,000 to link Professor Melissa Knothe Tate’s team’s invention of a new class of mechanically responsive medical textiles to a manufacturer in India.
  • $49,834 to link Dr Binghao Li’s mining communications network project with researchers in China to develop a prototype. 
  • $45,597 to link Dr Aron Michael’s project to develop Microelectromechanical System sensors to use in intravenous flow monitoring systems with Sensornomics Pty Ltd in Singapore.

 

The Global Connections Fund is a component of the Global Innovation Strategy.

 

It is designed to provide funding of $4.9 million over four years to support Australian researchers and SMEs to collaborate with a global partner through its two components—Priming Grants and Bridging Grants.

 

The 29 grant recipients announced last week by the Federal Minister for Industry, Innovation and Science, Senator the Hon. Arthur Sinodinos AO, will each receive up to $50,000 under the Bridging Grants component of the Global Connections Fund.

 

The Australian Academy of Technology and Engineering (ATSE) supports the Department of Industry, Innovation and Science, in the delivery of the Global Connections Fund.
